Placerville Event: 50th Anniversary Commemoration of the Vietnam War
Memorial Day–Monday, May 28, 2018
At this special Memorial Day event, Veterans of the Vietnam War and of wars of the late 20th and the 21st centuries (from Vietnam to today) will be honored and remembered. It is expected to be one of the largest attended Memorial Day ceremonies in California. The emotional reading of the names of all 32 El Dorado County servicemen who did not return from Vietnam will be read. Sounding of "Tattoo" on a half-muffle ship's bell by Navy veterans who served during the Vietnam War and this century will follow the reading of the 32 names who did not return from Vietnam and of the 32 wars, conflicts, interventions and actions that the U.S. Armed Forces have fought since Vietnam. Vietnam War flag to fly over the Veterans Monument. A choral performance of the Navy Hymn (eternal father) and martial music.
The first 1,000 attendees will be given official commemorative 50th anniversary pins. Vietnam era veterans will be presented bronze commemorative pins from a grateful nation. Family members of Vietnam era veterans will be presented Blue Star pins from a grateful nation. El Dorado County Veterans Monument Scholarships will be presented to four graduating high school students.
