Foodie Find: Reel Poke Cove
Reel Poke Cove

I love restaurants where you can build your own meal. It means you get to avoid the “I’ll have that, but without those, and add this” conversation. Reel Poké Cove in the Galleria at Roseville lets you choose everything you want in your Poké Bowl—ensuring it’s crafted exactly to your palate’s preference. First commit to your base, which could be salad, sushi rice, or brown rice. Second, pick your protein(s). Options include ahi tuna, shrimp, salmon, scallops, tako, and tofu. On my visit, I chose ahi tuna and shrimp; yes, you can do that! Step three is your “mix”—select from a spoonful of onions, cilantro, masago, scallions, sesame oil, Hawaiian salt, edamame, and jalapeños…or all the above. Next, get saucy with eight options—from a sriracha aioli to a slightly sweet unagi and spicy Thai chili. Your final decision, step five, is toppings. Go crazy and add ‘em all (we won’t judge), or keep it simple like me with fried onions, cucumbers, and avocado. For those who haven’t jumped on the poké craze quite yet, you’re missing out, but you’re also in luck: Reel serves a variety of cooked, island-inspired plates, like garlic shrimp, onigirazu (essentially a sushi sandwich), seared salmon, and fried “mochiko” chicken. What’s more, the family-owned restaurant uses only California-grown produce and 100-percent sustainable seafood, so you know you’re getting a quality meal with reel ingredients. Oh, and here’s a little secret: They make Dole Whip Floats that’ll change your life. You’re welcome.
