Thanks to the owners of FLB Entertainment Center, Cameron Park now has the perfect place to enjoy April’s sporting cornucopia: Wally’s Pizza Bar.
I visited Wally’s on a Saturday for lunch, and the food was, in a word, fantastic. I ordered the Crispy Calamari to start, which was reminiscent of fried chicken (with fresh squid replacing the chicken of course!). The breading was crunchy and flavorful but still light, and although I rarely dip anything in marinara, Wally’s version was served hot and hit all the right flavor notes, so I obliged and dug in. Next thing I knew, the calamari had disappeared.
The pizza was also ridiculously good. Wally’s teamed up with Rubicon Pizza Company, Fireside Pizza and Basecamp Pizza in Tahoe to bring you the most killer pie recipes in Northern California. I ordered the Thai curry chicken offering and am still having dreams about it. Creamy mascarpone, tender chicken, sweet yellow bells, basil, cilantro, tomatoes and a spicy curry paste on a crispy thin crust resulted in not just a party, but spring break in my mouth!
The friendly staff put me at ease and made me feel right at home, too—treating me like a regular despite it being my first visit. The bar has 20 draft beers on tap, including 11 craft brews, and plenty of seating (either at the bar or at a table) with TVs visible from pretty much every vantage point. There’s also a spacious dining area for families with underage kids; it’s a large enough space to accommodate all comers.
Whether it’s a quick pint after work, meeting up with friends or a family night out, Wally’s definitely deserves to be your new destination.
