Film Review : Movie 43
● By Justin Buettner
A crazy man finds his way into a movie pitch with a movie of executive. His series of horrible and raunchy skits are re-enacted in this new film spearheaded by director Peter Farelly, one half of the team that wrote and directed comedy classics Dumb and Dumber and There's Something About Mary.
Part of the job of being a movie reviewer is taking the proverbial bullet to protect the masses and warning people about truly awful films. Movie 43 is one of the worst films in recent memory. It has no story, no characters, no creativeness, and no comedy to speak off. The movie attempts to live off shock value, but the set ups are so generic and the shocks are so juvenile and stupid that the results are boring, predictable and cringe worthy.
Usually skit films are a mix bag as some skits are good, others not so much. To strike out with every single skit in the film is a special feat. To think a film this awful was able to gather a cast of this caliber together is mind boggling. Either a lot of agents need to be fired or someone has some major blackmail material on some of these stars. The thought anyone read this script and thought it would be a funny movie is almost beyond comprehension. Even scarier is the fact that it took nine writers to accomplish this giant misstep. Excuse the fact that seven of the nine writers have no writing experience and the other two write for the horribly misguided and unfunny show Brickleberry on the Comedy Network, it stands to reason that at least one of them would have lucked out and wrote one funny line or joke, even by mistake. Amazingly no one did. It defies all odds.
This film also provides proof which of the Farrelly Brothers has the comedic talent, and that Peter should never be able to direct or produce another film without his brother. But along for the ride are 12 other directors, some with rather big resumes, that not only agreed to direct but did so to such dismal results. If the twelve directors were not enough the movie has sixteen producers. How on earth did so many people get duped into making such a pathetically awful film?
I warn everyone to stay as far away from Movie 43 as you can. If I wasn't there to review the movie I would have left within twenty minutes of the movie starting. It takes a special kind of bad to make me run from the theater, and this movie is on a stinkmeter all its own. Let's just hope that Hollywood is unable to make a movie worse than Movie 43, a movie like this gives comedy a bad reputation. Shame on everyone involved with this movie.
