Describe your business. Did you find it, or did it find you?
As a freelance commercial writer, I help businesses increase their profits or achieve other goals through effective, strategic copywriting in brochures, newsletters, proposals, blogs, ads, Web sites and other written communications. For 10 years, I created sales and marketing communications for a large corporation. When I read a book on freelance commercial writing, I knew instantly it was for me.
What was the first job you ever had, and what did you learn from the experience?
When I was 15, I worked at Der Wienerschnitzel. I learned how to make a mean chili and bacon hot dog, and that friendly, efficient customer service is critical for gaining repeat customers.
How are you involved with both the community and your customer?
I do pro bono writing for Big Brothers Big Sisters of El Dorado County, which has given me a strong and meaningful connection to our community. I’ve also recently strengthened my ties to the business community through the El Dorado County Chamber of Commerce. I’ve lived in Cameron Park for 10 years and I support local businesses as much as possible.
What life accomplishments are you most proud of?
My 19-year relationship with my husband, the joy of my life.
Where do you go when the going gets tough?
I’ll take a day off, go for a great workout, get a massage, and then relax by the pool or soak in the spa.
What’s your hidden talent?
I play the electric guitar, write songs and “sing” (using the term “sing” loosely). I once fronted a rock and roll band.
What’s your biggest job perk?
Working at home in my sweats, hair in a ponytail, and no makeup.
What’s your favorite place to eat out locally?
And finally, customer service is…?
Taking the time to listen to your customers and understand their needs; offering solutions that solve their problems.
