As executive director of Marshall Foundation for Community Health, Karen Good, CFRM, is determined to make a difference in the health and well-being of her community. She has dozens of projects in the works, including the upcoming expansion of Marshall Medical Center’s emergency services, which includes a brand new emergency room set to open in early 2012.
Good is also working to provide more cancer services, something she has been particularly passionate about since losing both her parents to the disease.
In 2007, Good started a free mammogram program for those in need, noting that many of the donors were breast cancer survivors themselves. “Those people give back to us…so what they suffered, other women won’t have to suffer,” Good explains. In addition to her work for Marshall Medical Center, Good is an active member of the Placerville Kiwanis Club and an organizer for the Nonprofit Partnership, a collaboration of 12 nonprofits in El Dorado County which provide critical services to the community, such as food banks and hospice care. “I was raised knowing that you should help your neighbor in any way that you can,” she says. “It’s going to take all of us pulling together to make the health system work.”
