After winning a fair chunk of change at the Thunder Valley slot machines, I decided to splurge on lunch at the casino’s highly acclaimed Chinese restaurant, Koi Palace.

The grand entrance, reminiscent of an emperor’s palace, immediately transported me to the Far East. With traditional Chinese décor and colors throughout, including Buddha statues, jade vases, marble foo dogs and Zen fountains; high ceilings with extravagant lighting fixtures; and a myriad of seating options, Koi Palace is definitely not lacking in ambiance.

Perusing the menu, which features an array of dim sum, seafood, Chinese BBQ, and noodle soup selections, I opted for the “Super Value Lunch.” Served daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the affordable special comes complete with the soup of the day, a vegetable spring roll, choice of steamed rice or chow mein, and one main course.

Immediately after ordering, the piping hot and artfully presented Egg Flower Soup was delivered. The simple flavors agreed nicely with my taste buds, but the added splash of chili paste really fired up my appetite. Next, the attentive server brought out the star of the meal – Zesty Orange Chicken accompanied by steamed rice and a vegetable spring roll. My chopsticks didn’t know where to land first, but slowly made their way around the colorful plate...until nothing remained. While the lightly fried spring roll – generously filled with carrots, cabbage, and rice noodles with a tangy sweet & sour dipping sauce – was divine, my favorite dish of the day was by far the orange chicken. A nice crunch and sweet yet spicy glaze on the outside complemented the tender pieces of chicken well; and zests of orange dispersed throughout added even more gusto.

If you want to beat the odds of gambling with quality cuisine instead, head to Koi Palace – where you’re guaranteed to win...and leave satisfied!
