Describe your business. Did you find it, or did it find you?
I do rock ‘n’ roll hair – cut, color and dreadlocks – using products that reduce our ecological footprint and that support healthy hair, healthy people and healthy communities. I’ve always gravitated toward finding ways to make the beauty industry work for us – ways to connect our visual aesthetic to our inner beauty, to lessen the damage done to the environment, to support people in looking and feeling their best – so this is a natural fit for me.
What’s your hidden talent?
I love when I get the opportunity to take an otherwise conservative hairstyle and add a little pop of bright color in the most subtle of ways. And, I do a gorgeous beachy highlight.
What’s your biggest job perk?
I love the resource-sharing that happens when I work with people. We exchange information about parenting, healthcare, food, gardening, local businesses, schools…you name it. There’s something profoundly feminist about connecting and sharing knowledge with other women that really fills me with immense joy.
What’s your favorite local event that you go to?
I love the sense of community that the Placerville Farmers’ Market provides, along with the amazing local produce. It’s the perfect Saturday morning destination.
What’s your favorite local business other than your own?
I’m so excited to see what the Placerville Food Co-op has in store for us. I love supporting businesses that contribute to the health of the community and its people.
And finally, customer service is…?
It’s about connecting with what makes people feel good and then consistently delivering; it’s about creating a style that is authentic to the individual, is easy to maintain at home and looks amazing; it’s about giving people the tools and information to practice exceptional self-care between salon visits; finally, it’s about really enjoying what I do, and practicing love and gratitude in every interaction I have during the day.
