Often I miss my days of being a San Diego beach bum where the Pacific Ocean and good quality grubbin’ were just a bike ride away.
Thankfully, one of Roseville’s newest eateries, Ginger’s, brought me right back to the good ole beachcomber days. The outdoor patio and tropical décor featuring tiki huts, an aquarium, hanging hammock and vintage beach artwork provided the perfect setting to hang loose.
I was lucky enough to be joined by two close gal pals on this particular evening, who were just as impressed with the ambiance and just as hungry as me. The extensive island-meets-California menu provides something for every appetite – breakfast choices served all day long, salads, sandwiches, burgers, wraps, seafood and steaks – to name a few. Sticking with the coastal groove, we started with the Coconut Crunchy Shrimp. Our server was quick to bring out the flawlessly crusted prawns, and the sweetness of the coconut and nuttiness of the breading was just what my taste buds ordered. A plum dipping sauce helped brighten the flavors even more.
My main dish, Ginger’s Grilled Ahi Steak Sandwich, with lettuce, tomatoes and tartar sauce on grilled sourdough was divine. The seasoned fries on the side were so incredibly flavorful that drenching them in ketchup was unnecessary. The others’ were satisfied with their selections as well – the Fillet of Sole Amandine and CA Coastline BBQ Chicken Wrap. All girl talk ceased as we devoured our food.
To soothe our sweet tooth urge we decided to order what could soon become Ginger’s claim to fame – the Big Kahuna Mega Ice Cream Dessert Martini – nine scoops of ice cream, topped with sliced bananas, strawberry sauce, hot fudge, caramel, whipped cream, sliced almonds and cherries on top! This treat was a feast for the eyes and certainly the tummy too!
Next time you find yourself daydreaming about eating tasty fare in a laid-back atmosphere, look no further than Ginger’s.
Note: Ginger’s is open until 3 a.m. on weekends and also offers curbside pickup.
