Describe your business. Did you find it, or did it find you?
We found it. We’re always looking for something creative to do.
What was your first job, and what did you learn from the experience?
The first art job was for a big corporation in San Francisco in 1992. We learned that you can earn a great living doing what you love. The first involvement with roasting coffee was when we opened our gallery/coffee house in New Mexico. We couldn’t find good, fresh beans so we started roasting them ourselves. We learned that coffee roasting is an art in and of itself.
How are you involved with both the community and your customer?
In the community we do a lot of volunteer work. Barb is the secretary for the Historic El Dorado Business Member’s Association, as well as the manager for the El Dorado Farmer’s Market. We volunteer in several areas at Green Valley Community Church, including helping with funerals and grief classes, and meeting with children in juvenile hall. Customer involvement is included in every aspect of our business.
Why is your staff the best in the business?
The personal, one-on-one attention we give to our customers.
What life accomplishments are you most proud of?
Raising our children and finding peace in a crazy world.
Who is your role model in business or in life, and why?
Jesus. Because there is no one better than He!
Where do you go when the going gets tough?
To the beach!
What’s your biggest job perk?
Doing what we love at a slower pace.
What’s your favorite place to eat out locally?
Heyday Café and Cascada.
Where do you and your family go locally to have fun?
What’s your favorite local event that you go to?
The Art & Wine Festival on Main Street in October.
And finally, customer service is…?
Meeting people’s needs in a creative way and giving them something unique that brings joy to their lives.
